ACADEMIC SPECIALIST
JOB INFORMATION
The Alabama Public Charter School Commission (Charter Commission) is seeking a full-time data analyst. The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to work with a variety of stakeholders, manage multiple projects with ambitious deadlines and write and communicate effectively. The position is hybrid with occasional team meetings in Montgomery with travel including charter school site visits, planning meetings, local and national conferences, training, etc.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENT(S)
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in an approved subject matter,
• Five years of professional experience in either K-12 Education or Higher Education,
• Proven Experience with Data Analysis,
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Various Software Applications.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in an approved subject matter,
• Experience working with PowerSchool and NextGen,
• A demonstrated commitment to meeting expectations,
• A willingness to be flexible and embrace continuous improvement,
• Enjoy Working with a team and collaborating across workstreams,
• An understanding of charter schools and charter school autonomies,
• A demonstrated capacity to manage long term projects, and
• Strong personal presence necessary to interact and develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Job Responsibilities
This position will report to the Executive Director and be responsible for the following:
• Work with school personnel to establish academic, organizational, and financial performance
metrics for the annual evaluation of each charter school,
• Work with school-level staff on the management of student assessment data including providing
training and support to school staff to ensure accurate data.
• Provide monthly data audits for schools’ teams aligned with the performance framework
requirements of the Alabama Public Charter Schools Commission (APCSC).
• Monitor the compliance of the requirements of the charter contract and applicable state and
federal laws,
• Write reports and give presentations of the performance of charter schools,
• Support the claiming and data implementation of district assessments, including ACT and ACAP
for the district,
• Work with school-level staff to ensure all student information is accurate in the required online
platforms,
• Prepare accountability projections for annual reporting,
• Support school level staff in required academic, financial and operational reporting,
• Any other duties as assigned to support the overall functions of the Charter Commission.
Terms of Employment: Twelve Month Position in Accordance with Negotiated Contract. The Alabama Public Charter School Commission in a non-merit state agency.
